Layla Joseph
I have alway considered myself a leader, which means helping others, listening, giving my all into the things I choose to do and accepting constructive criticism. I enjoy spending time with my family, including my two little sisters and my cat, Jerry.
My hobbies including thrifting, photography, writing, collecting plants, crochet and staying informed within my community. I am apart of Meadville's Business and Professional Women's Club and currently work for Pittsburgh's Downtown Neighbors Alliance while freelancing for the New Castle News.
Slippery Rock University
For much of college, I felt intimidated by my peers. I always thought I should be doing more and doing better. It took me until my senior year to realize that I am one of the students I used to be intimidated by. With my newfound confidence, I hope someday I will work with people to make a difference in communities and hold government officials accountable.
Through college, I supported myself financially on top of a full-time class load. I was able to prioritize my studies while working, managing bills, maintaining a healthy social life and participating in extracurricular activities.
Maplewood High School
In high school, I was one of six students who spoke at graduation. I was nominated by my peers to prepare a farewell speech, where I was able to share advice to underclassmen and thank those who supported me throughout the years. I was a student council officer, organizing spirit weeks, dances, fundraising and events. I received the Junior Journalism award in junior-high and went on to earn a position as editor at our online publication, The Woodshed Word, and contributed sports to the Titusville Herald.
I was the president of Yearbook Committee, where I designed eye-catching layouts, took photos and managed our yearbook staff. I was an officer for Future Business Leaders of America and also part of National Honors Society, Super Fan Club, Key Club and Prom Committee. I was active in sports and earned letters in basketball, softball and soccer.
