Recently I conducted a survey with a sample size of 116 participants. In the survey, I asked students of Slippery Rock University a series of questions that had to do with their alcohol consumption and safety while partying.
Of the participants in the survey, the majority (73%) of participants were female.
Many of the participants were juniors in college (29.3%) The majority of participants also claimed to be 20-21 years of age (42.2%). Participants aged 22-24 made up 31% of people while 26.9% of participants stated that they are 20 years old or younger. Only one participant stated they were over the age of 25.
I gave participants a series of statements in which they could choose whether they strongly agree, agree, are neutral, disagree, or strongly agree. I also asked two open-ended questions which allowed participants to express themselves freely.
I was pleasantly surprised that 60.9% of participants said that they would call campus police even if they had been drinking prior.
As far as partying habits, I asked students where and when they party the most.
It was no surprise to me that Saturday would be the most popular day for students to drink socially.
When I asked what the participant's goal was, when going out to drink, almost all 99 open ended responses involved "having fun."
I also asked the participants if they ever felt unsafe at an off-campus party and asked them to specify where the incident took place. Many students felt comfortable enough to share their experiences: some students said they were scared of getting arrested for underage drinking, some scared of guns or fights, many scared of being sexually harassed, and some who have never felt unsafe. It seems as though every party spot in town has similar experiences, according to what participants shared.
