Residents of Slippery Rock Township have been speaking up in outrage against a company that purchased a property “meant for rural conservation” but now asks the township for permission to use the property as a “light industrial zone.

HEI-Way Asphalt, the company that purchases the land, has specialized in manufacturing and paving since 1956. The Pennsylvania company is located in Sarver but transports material throughout the state.

$20 shirts created by SSRC Founder Chris Coleman to support the group's legal defense fund.

A group has formed within the community, and their calling is to Save Slippery Rock Creek. According to the Facebook group, with more than 1,000 members, the group hopes to deter the township from rezoning the property.

The group claims that allowing HEI-Way Asphalt to start a cold-mix asphalt plant on property bordering the creek “is a direct threat to the existing ecosystem.”

The group will sponsor a festival they coined “Creekfest” and sell tee-shirts to support their legal defense fund. Creekfest will be located at Rock Falls Park in Slippery Rock, PA, and will run Sunday, October 9th, from 12-6 PM. The festival will feature live music, food, and people who care for Slippery Rock Creek. A kayak float will start at Crestview Road at 9:30 AM to kick off the day!
